Mama Rose Restaurant & Bar
Mama Rose Restaurant & Bar
Mama Rose Restaurant and Bar was established in the 1940’s by Miss Rose Alexander. She started out with a stone oven where she baked local bread to sell with fried fish and the usual shot of rum for the fishermen who went to sea from 3 am in the morning. This bar and restaurant has been in the family for four generations, serving delicious local meals such as fresh grilled fish, seasoned chicken and barbecued pork with all the traditional trimmings (ground provisions, salads, beans, etc.). You can also get chicken and chips (fries) and their daily special depending on what’s fresh and what the cook feels like making that day. There is a fully stocked bar with homemade rum punches, cold beverages and local juices.
In the early nineties the business was taken over by her granddaughter Christina Juliet Joseph who worked at the first hotel in the south of the island. She transformed it into a full fledge restaurant and bar, infusing her culinary experiences from the hotel with local fresh ingredients like catch of the day from the sons of the fishermen her grandmother served back in the day.
Now today the business is owned and operated by Adon, Minel and Quill for the last ten (10) years. They are the children of the late Christina Juliet Joseph. They too are continuing the legacy of their great grandmother and mother by providing the finest local cuisine in a relaxed village vibe. The present day to day running of the business is now being done by Rose her great, great granddaughter.
Mama Rose’s is located right next to Laborie’s market square with both indoor tables as well as an outdoor bar/patio perfect for keeping an eye on what’s going on around town.
