Feel the Rhythm, Taste the Life, Love the Blue — Discover Laborie
On Monday, June 29, 2026, the village of Laborie came alive with the vibrant traditions of the Laborie Fishers’ Feast, known in Creole as Fѐt Péchѐ. This annual celebration, held in honor of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, patron saints of fishers, brought together faith, heritage, and community pride.
The day began at 8:00 AM with a solemn Mass at the Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where prayers were offered for the safety and prosperity of Laborie’s fishing community.
Following the service, fishers gathered at the Laborie Jetty for the traditional Blessing of the Boats. Vessels were proudly aligned along the calm waters as the parish priest bestowed prayers for protection at sea and abundant catches.
The Laborie Development Foundation’s representative caught up with two young fishers, Kyle and Daniel. The duo expressed pride regarding their daily contributions—providing fresh fish and vital nourishment to the people of Laborie.
The celebrations continued with breakfast and lunch sponsored by the Laborie Fishers’ and Consumers Cooperative, a gesture of gratitude to the hardworking fishers. Later, the festivities moved to the beach opposite the market square, where locals and fishers gathered for merriment, music, and camaraderie.
From the blessing of vessels to the laughter shared under palm trees, the day embodied the unity and resilience of Laborie’s fishing community. The decorated “Happy Fisher’s Day” cake symbolised the joy and pride of this humble yet noble profession.
While this year’s celebrations were lowkey Laborie Fisherman’s Feast continues to be a living testament to the traditions, faith, and fellowship that define coastal life in our village.
