Laborie Kwéyòl Song Contest 2026

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST NOTICE

The Laborie community has long been recognised as a proud guardian of Saint Lucia’s Kwéyòl language and traditions. In keeping with this tradition, the Laborie Development Foundation (LDF) plans to host a Kwéyòl Song Competition as part of the Jounen Kwéyòl Celebrations 2026. This cultural event will showcase original music rooted in heritage, freedom, ancestral memory, and Kwéyòl pride under the theme “Lang Nou, Mizik Nou, Kwéyans Nou” (Our Language, Our Music, Our Pride).

The LDF invites singers, songwriters, and performers from Laborie and environs to indicate their interest in participating. The competition will feature live performances of original Kwéyòl songs before a judging panel and audience.

Eligible Genres

  • Kaiso
  • Dennery Segment
  • Reggae
  • Folk Fusion

Song Requirements

  • Written and performed in Kwéyòl
  • Original composition (max 6 minutes)
  • Reflect themes of culture, heritage, freedom, land, ancestors, or Kwéyòl identity
  • Maintain standards of decency and cultural respect

  • Best Lyrics
  • Best Kwéyòl Expression
  • Best Vocal Performance
  • Best Cultural Message
  • People’s Choice Award

Interested individuals are invited to submit their names, contact details, and a brief description of their proposed song entry to the Laborie Development Foundation by Friday, 15th August 2026.
